We revived the brick exterior with a fresh coat of Sherwin-Williams Duration in Alpharetta. The Duration Home line is great for exterior surfaces because it is resistant to cracking and peeling. The paint itself provides thicker coating and it is self priming. Sherwin-Williams backs its Duration line with a limited lifetime warranty, which means you get the most bang for your buck guaranteed!
Painted brick has a style all its own and is seen more and more as decorating trends shift.
We pressure washed to clean exterior brick. The primary point of the wash is to clear any dirt, grime, and loose paint.
Once the washing was completed, we allowed the brick plenty of time to fully dry. This took a few days because brick is a porous material that traps moisture.
Removed all loose paint that was left behind on the brick face or else it will cause early chipping when you eventually apply your coat. We used a hand scraper to get the larger pieces.
Sanded the brick smooth using either a palm or circular sander. Then, repaired any missing and damaged mortar. At the Alpharetta house we scraped and sanded any deteriorating surfaces. We then applied primer and sealed the brick with oil based zinsser cover stain primer.
Caulked any area that can let water in, even an opening as small as a 1/16 inch. This includes doors, windows, trim, and chimney caps.
Before beginning, we removed all the dust that’s come to rest on the brick face with a brush or vacuum. When choosing exterior house paint, Sherwin-Williams Duration is one of the best choices. Just look at the finished results.
As we were finishing the brick paint job at the Alpharetta house the owners also asked us to stain their deck. This process included cleaning, pressure washing, they applying the stain.
